It shall be the mission of the Tabernacle Fire District to provide for the safety and welfare of the residents of Tabernacle. The board shall provide optimum and cost-effective fire fighting services to residents of Tabernacle. This will be accomplished with the highest level of integrity, trust, commitment and teamwork.
Prior to establishing the Tabernacle Fire District #1, fire suppression and prevention services were provided in Tabernacle by the Medford Farms Volunteer Fire Company. This fire company used various fundraising methods to meet their financial needs over and above the annual stipend provided them by the Township of Tabernacle.
As the population grew the financial demands of the fire department increased. The stipend given by the Township no longer met the financial demands of the fire company. Even with fundraisers and door-to-door collections the Medford Farms Volunteer Fire Company could not meet their financial needs. A petition to create the Tabernacle Fire District was presented to the Tabernacle Township Committee. The Township Committee approved the creation of the Tabernacle Fire District.
The establishment of the Tabernacle District Number One has enabled the Board, of Fire Commissioners to fund and provide fire protection through a contract with the Medford Farms Volunteer Fire Company, which it contracts to provide fire protection and suppression services
Funds required to operate the fire district are derived from real estate taxes levied on property owners within the fire district. A budget is drafted and submitted to the public each year for a vote on the third Saturday in February. Assessment, collection and distribution of tax monies are performed for disbursement by the tax assessor, tax collector, and chief financial officer of the Township of Tabernacle.
